Privacy Policy
Effective 18 September 2026
1. What Sharp Is (and Isn't)
Sharp is a vocabulary and general-knowledge training app. It gives you a daily word, short knowledge modules, and spaced-repetition practice, and it scores your answers to produce a Verbal IQ figure, a rank, and a Knowledge Grade Level.
These scores are a training signal, not a clinical or diagnostic assessment. Sharp is not a psychometric instrument, is not administered or interpreted by a qualified professional, and is not a substitute for a supervised IQ, cognitive, educational, or medical assessment. It must not be used for diagnosis, clinical decisions, employment screening, academic placement, or any similar purpose.
Sharp does not collect health data, biometric data, photographs, audio recordings, contacts, or location.
2. Who the App Is For (18+)
Sharp is intended for adults aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
3. Information We Collect
What you give us.
- A first name, if you enter one during onboarding.
- Your answers to the onboarding questions (what you want to improve, and the topic you pick).
- An email address and password, only if you create an account. Account creation happens after purchase — the onboarding flow itself is anonymous.
What the app records as you use it.
- Your answers to test and practice questions, and the scores computed from them: Verbal IQ, rank, sub-scores, and Knowledge Grade Level.
- Your Word Bank — the words you have banked, how many times you answered each correctly, when you last saw it, and whether you marked it as said out loud.
- Your streak, XP, Streak Shields, and which modules you have completed.
What is collected automatically.
- A randomly generated session identifier, created on first launch so your progress can be saved before you have an account. If you later create an account, that progress is re-keyed to your account.
- Basic device and app information — device model, operating system version, app version, language, and time zone.
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications.
What we do not receive. Purchases are processed by Apple. We never see or store your card number, billing address, or Apple ID password.
4. How We Use Your Information
- To run the product: score your tests, schedule your spaced repetition, keep your streak, and show your progress.
- To deliver your daily word and the reminders you have allowed.
- To provide and verify access to paid features.
- To understand how the app is used in aggregate, so we can improve it.
- To measure which marketing campaigns bring people to Sharp, where you have permitted it (see section 6).
- To support you, protect against abuse, and meet legal obligations.
5. Analytics
We use PostHog to understand product usage — which screens are opened, which steps are completed, and where people drop off. These events are tied to your session identifier or account identifier, not to your name or email. We do not sell this data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles.
6. Advertising Measurement & App Tracking Transparency
We use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement partner, to understand which advertisement or link brought you to Sharp. On iOS this can involve your device's advertising identifier, which is why the app shows Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt.
- If you choose Ask App Not to Track, your advertising identifier is not accessed and is not used for cross-app measurement.
- If you choose Allow, the identifier may be used to attribute your install to a campaign.
- You can change your choice at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
We use this only to measure our own advertising. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with data brokers.
7. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract:
- Supabase — authentication and database hosting (hosted on Amazon Web Services).
- Railway — hosting for our application server.
- Superwall — presents the subscription screen and records purchase state.
- Apple — processes all purchases and subscription billing.
- PostHog — product analytics.
- AppsFlyer — advertising measurement, subject to your tracking choice.
- Expo — delivery of push notifications.
We may also disclose information where required by law, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.
Sharp does not send your data to any artificial-intelligence provider. The app contains no AI chat or AI analysis feature.
8. Data Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored in access-controlled systems. Our database is not reachable directly from the app: every read and write goes through our server, which authorises it. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data Retention & Account Deletion
We keep your learning data while your account exists, because the product's value is the record of what you have learned over time.
You can delete your account from inside the app at any time: Settings → Account → Delete everything. This is immediate and requires no email or customer-service step. Deleting your account permanently removes your Word Bank, rank history, test results, and subscription record within 30 days.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription — subscriptions are billed by Apple and must be cancelled in your Apple ID settings. Cancelling your subscription does not require deleting your account.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You can exercise deletion directly in the app; for anything else, contact us at the address below and we will respond within the period required by applicable law.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to complain to your local supervisory authority.
11. International Users & Transfers
We operate from, and our service providers process data in, the United States and other countries. Where personal information is transferred out of your country, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. If the change is material, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Sharp after a change means you accept the updated policy.
